After Vanderbilt’s tight victory over #18 Kansas State last week to start off the football season 3-0, the Commodores turned their attention to an Alabama program coached by Nick Saban that is currently ranked #1 in the nation. We interviewed Junior quarterback Kyle Shurmur, who has had a great start to the season with 8 touchdowns and no interceptions after the game.

With a few weeks of football in the books, The Slant is excited to announce the start of our Heisman rankings. Periodically, throughout the season we’ll review the top five contenders and a player to watch who just missed the cut.

In an effort to improve its game day experience, Vanderbilt is bringing the people what they want: more consulting. Vanderbilt has announced that Bain will participate in an information session on the field during halftime.

Vanderbilt football could be at risk of losing another key player to a highly competitive career outside of football.  Two years ago Vanderbilt football lost starting quarterback, Patton Robinette, after his decision to attend medical school.  This year, tight end Sam Dobbs is being heavily recruited to lead Amazon’s drone delivery service.

With the new season only days away, Vanderbilt football coach Derek Mason is still hard at work on the recruiting trail.  Following this season, Kyle Shurmur, will only have one year of eligibility remaining.  But Mason believes he’s found the perfect replacement.
